CONGRATULATIONS TO OUR SCHOLARSHIP WINNER – ROBIN McQUEEN!

In case you were not present at our May 20 meeting, we presented a scholarship in the amount of $1000 to Robin McQueen. Robin, who is a student member of NORWF, will be attending Florida International University in the Honors University and will major in marine biology, zoology and psychology. She plans to work in the fields of rehabilitating marine animals, animal husbandry and research.

She wrote in her essay that she has been involved in local politics since she was four years old when her mother, Commissioner Marilyn McQueen, was first elected to Apopka City Council; the first woman in over 35 years. She worked very actively in the last campaign and believes that, “…it is imperative that women become more involved and play a stronger role in government.” She also believes a woman will be President of the United States and that there will eventually be more women than men in government.

Her involvement in the community extends beyond chairing the City of Apopka’s Youth Advisory Board, being a volunteer counselor at her church’s Vacation Bible School and representing Apopka as the current Miss Teen Apopka.

So, when you see Robin at a meeting or out in the community, please congratulate her!
